Southern Region covers lands and waters of the south-central part of the province south of the French and Mattawa Rivers and bounded by three Great Lakes - Huron, Erie and Ontario. The lands and waters within Southern Region have historical and enduring importance to the many Indigenous Nations who have Aboriginal and treaty rights throughout this area.

Southern Region is covered by approximately 30 treaties, agreements and purchases, all of which are constitutionally recognized agreements between Indigenous peoples and the Crown.

South Region provides:

  • the core business of natural resource management
  • public safety
  • emergency response
  • geographic information
  • land and resource management planning
    • allocation and advice
