Trained volunteers available to assist members of the community with modest incomes who have difficulty completing their tax returns

Service Details

Hours Mon-Fri 5 pm-7 pm, beginning Jan 1, 2026 until Dec 31 2026. Closed during holidays.

Eligibility Available to individuals who have a modest income and a simple tax situation.
Income Limits per family
  • Family size is calculated as a single adult or couple and their dependent children under 18 years
  • Community organizations can adjust the total family income for their clients based on the local economic environment, the population they serve, and their resources.
    • $40,000 for one person family
    • $55,000 for a two-person family (combined income of a couple, or one adult with one child under 18 years)
    • $60,000 for a three-person family (combined income of a couple with one child, or one adult with two children under 18 years)
    • $65, 000 for a four-person family (combined income of a couple with two children, or one adult with three children under 18 years)
    • $70,000 for a five-person family (combined income of a couple with 3 children, or one adult with four children under 18 years)
    • $70,000 plus $5,000 for each additional dependent (under 18 years) for a family with more than five persons

    In general, a tax situation is simple if an individual has no income or if their income comes from these sources:
    • employment
    • pension
    • benefits, such as the Canada Pension Plan, Old Age Security, disability insurance, employment insurance, and social assistance
    • registered retirement savings plans (RRSPs)
    • scholarships, fellowships, bursaries, or grants
    • interest (under $1,200)
    Volunteers are not expected to answer complex tax questions. If a taxpayer needs information that is beyond the volunteer's expertise, they can find more information on this website or contact the Canada Revenue Agency.

    Some volunteers may complete prior-year tax returns; however, they will only complete tax returns they feel comfortable preparing based on the information the taxpayer gives them. Complex tax situations are not supported.

  • T4's and T5's
  • receipts including rent, property tax bills, etc and last year's return if possible
  • government issued photo ID required
